What Are Godparents For

I attended my uncle's mother's wake today. This uncle is by the way, also my godfather. A funny sight occurred sometime around 10.20pm. Everyone was minding their own business when a huge group of guys poured into the place. My mom later found out that my uncle's brother, who by the way was adopted by my uncle's mom, used to be a gangster back in those days. Hence when any family member of the gang passes away, the whole gang is expected to turn up to pay their respects. It was pretty hilarious when the whole group started shouting something about brotherhood and I thinked I saw some pumped their fists into the air.

My godmother, my uncle's wife, cracked me up too. She was with the kids upstairs when the gang arrived. When she reappeared later, we told her what happened. She thought it was some soccer fans watching the World Cup and that they were cheering for the goals.

I would also like to take a moment here to remember my uncle's mother. I wasnt very close to her, but I will remember her as a great lady who gave me the best godfather a god-daughter could ask for. My godparents got me my first phone and pay for my phone bills every month. Every birthday, I would be showered with expensive gifts from them. My godfather was there for me when I needed a guarantor for my university loans and the many other times, he never failed to be there for me when I needed help. They were the ones I turned to when I ran away from home when I was young. After all, isnt that what godparents are for? To be there to shower us with gifts, to give us a home when we have a fight with our parents, to give us advice about things that we would never talked to our parents about.

I am indeed blessed with the greatest godparents in the world! :)
